    Default 1680 top hat 127 or t19

Well had no more love for it. Was for sale until today..

Changed the plexi a few minutes ago from an cyclop 25-127 to an T19 without cyclops and i have to say i love it!

The t19 is much more cleaner looking and it looks more toolish- just as it should be for a 1680. It makes the dial just pop out of the case.

What do u think/ what are u wearing your 1680 with? Cyclops/ non cyclops.

Let me say, it totally changes the look of the watch, just love it!

Comparsion with some quick n dirty iphone pics:

    Cheers

Cyclops magnification looks to big to me.
"Aiyah Panerai, buay beh liao eh lah."

PM me if you want to sell your Kevin, Ted Su, Wotancraft, Piotr or Simona Straps.

Strap size is 24 mm and or 26 mm and at least 80mm by 140mm or larger.

Some are too small, some to big even at the gen ones.
A Sternkreuz is too small, had that installed a few weeks ago.

    What so u prefer? T19 or 127?

I’ve seen a few guys with gens do this too. I love the look! Thinking about doing it myself on a few of mine. I’ve seen GMT’s that way too.

Yup. As said it makes a huge difference.
IĎve sold it nearly as i had no more love for it. Changed the plexi et voila itís a completely different watch.

Sure some say a date sub needs a cyclop and only 5513/5512/ drsdĎs should be fitted with domed crystals but imo it gives a little uniqueness to every datesub not having a cyclop.

If the view of the date thru the cyclops wasnít so distorted, I wouldnít have any issue with keeping the original plexi on it. Iím fine with the way it looks on the 5-digit sub with the sapphire crystal. However, the date on these almost appears clownish so, even tho you end up losing the magnification by making this switch, you give a cleaner and more professional (IMO) look to this tool watch.

In time of where the T19 was mounted i sourced a GS 127. Was a pita to find one, at least for me lol

Just put it in and imo itís the clearest of all known aftermarket 127Ďs. Date is lining up perfect and magnification is just as it should be. I think my journey of sourcing a good 127 for my red sub has ended, finally!

    Herr ya go

Some dust under the plexi, sorry just wanted to test fit it.

That actually looks really nice. I've still got the stock 127 on my red 1680 and it's 7 years old now. I have always hated the shape of mine because it's literally a straight edge. Yours has a nice bevel. Now that it's scuffed up, you can barely read the date through the cyclops.

Where did you buy this one? Can you share the link? It might be nice to have one as well as a T19. Can you also share the link to the T19 you got?

Thanks. No worries. I tried a Clark T19 on my 1680 and it looked good for about 5 minutes before it cracked the crystal. I only had one on hand, so my watchmaker put the stock 127 back on and closed her up. I have read on the forums that the tolerances for these can very a little bit from crystal to crystal, so it helps to have a couple on hand in case one is too large or too small.

Hm curious, after fitting the bezel retainer ring or before? If itís after, the retainer is sitting too tight. Take a dremel and make the retainer slightly wider.

I have the Puretime 1680, which actually isn't made anymore, and while it is a great case shape with great lugs, correct engravings, crown guards and correct lugholes, it uses a plastic retainer ring instead of a metal retainer ring. The purists would send the watch to JMB to have a custom retainer ring machined for it, but I never followed through on that. In hindsight, I might need to do that. He can't make one for it without having the watch and crystal on hand, and once he makes it you are stuck with that crystal for life unless you have him machine a new one for you with the next crystal.

Yeah the PT subs are using plastic retainer which are a pita imo.

Agreed. When I first started my vintage journey it was awesome because it hit all of the major touch points pretty well and didn't require much modding, other than putting on a gen crown. The dial print for the meters first red dial is spot on, except for the annoyingly shiny lume plots, and it even has a low beat Swiss 2846. But.... the plastic retainer is so awful and kills it. I really need to address that. My bezel just spins and can fall off easily. It's anti-gen!! LOL
