    Bumpitty-bump

There has got to be more than 6 Geeks who have young children who have outgrown stuff.

Whether or not you support the US being in Iraq has diddly squat to do with this. This is about bringing some happiness to some ridiculously poor children who will most likely never get to see a market or a store in their lives!

Trust me it's good for the soul!

Question for you guys who already sent the packages.

I've already weighed and purchased postage for the package. After I fill out the customs form do I just stick it outside the box and drop it into a mail box or is there some special procedure and I have to drop it off at the post office counter?

    Thanks.

Thank brother but no need for awards. There are Joes all over doing exactly what we're doing. I just have my own internet hookup (can browse non-approved content at will) and belong to this forum.

I'd like to think any of us Geeks who were in a similar situation would do the same and those who have donated have proved that.

That's why I love this place.

BTW since everyone is in a giving mood- there is a thread in the Comments and Suggestions section called "Become a VIP Today". 20,000 Geekbux to anyone who signs up for VIP status until me and Chris V run out of Bux

Man...That is indescribable with words SFA.

We have it so good. We take it for granted.

The kid at the very end after everything was handed out, begging for something could have been you. Or one of those girls could have been your daughter.

SF...I know you have to keep your head on straight to stay alert while dealing with these things.

    Good Job!!!

Bingo Luman- you hit the nail right on the head. I have a 10 year old at home so it kind of hits me hard seeing these kids and the conditions in which they live.

We have a loose 360 when we operate out there and the town knows if we get shot at their fuel gets shut off. I think that dissuades them more than anything LOL

What amazes me is that these people will share what little they have, tea, bread, lamb with us when we are there. The dichotomy between the good side of Islam (we are honored guests and treated with great respect and courtesy) and the bad side (treatment of women, child marriages) is mind boggling. Wish they would get away from the midieval, mysticism and social mores and join the modern world.

Nonetheless, these people are so grateful for the extras they get it chokes you up. Thanks to everyone who donated and if this is your first time reading this thread- go raid your kid's closet for anything/everything they don't use. Guarantee it'll be the best money you ever spent for the postage!

The problem is in the media! We are all chocked out by crap on radio and tv. People dont know the real story. I see the big picture in everything. Unfortunatly, America has "opinions" which are based soley on media and are imo, crap.

You are doing a good job. NO! War is not the awnser BUT in this day and age it is all we know and can do. You must deal with the problem at hand with the only solution available.

    Hey SFA,

I have a TON of stuff to send your way

Just not to sure what girls over there are allowed to wear and what they are not allowed to wear?

Any shorts or longer skirts allowed?

Kudos SFA. We have one of our boys over there right now and he echos what you are saying. He's training the Iraq defense forces and goes out on patrols with them during their training. He tells us we've never really seen poor, not even close, and that includes our big city ghettos.

We'll get a box or two together for y'all and get it in the mail ASAP. APO packages are one flat rate at the PO no matter the size/weight. IIRC it's around $10, so maybe this will encourage fellow geeks to make a committment and git 'er done!

Not only is it the right humanitarian thing to do, but you never know years down the road, what influence this may have on children (boys) who grow up and make decisions on who their enemies will be.

Eyes sharp, head down, stay safe.

Shorts are acceptable as are knee length skirts. The girls wear the shorter stuff inside the home amongst relatives and wear the longer dresses outside the home (common practice). Miniskirts are pretty much a no-no though LOL. Just figure that anything you would feel comfortable letting you daughter wear out is good to go.

These poor kids have what they are wearing and nothing else although we have made a dent in expanding their wardrobe.

We're hoping that this indeed shows the people we deal with that we aren't all here to kick in their doors at 0-dark-30 and tear up their home. There is a time and a place for that of course however Big Army sometimes fails to realize not everyone here is the "enemy". It actually isn't all that different from Europe or the States in that respect- 5% of the population cause 95% of the problems. Imagine what LA, Detroit or Washington DC would be like if the roving gangs of thugs had access to crew served weapons and explosives. They'd be 10 times worse than Baghdad!

With the exception of strict Islam, the people are just like us. They want to have kids, take care of their families, raise their crops and livestock and basically be left the f**k alone.

You are reaching out to a population that is particularly vulnerable to the call of radical Islam and militancy. You are bringing happiness into the life of a child who suffers through a brutal and grinding existence. Most of all, you are doing God's work- no matter what you call Him.

Guys, check out the local Craig's list. People regularly give away children stuff...or sell it very cheap. Might work out...

Now don't sugarcoat anything Anubis- tell us how you REALLY feel LOL

Thanks to admin & the mods for making this a Sticky!

Operation Repgeek is chugging along- lots of packages inbound right now I'm stocking my flight suit with AA batteries because I know I'm going to be burning through quite a bit doing photos/videos.

Every Geek who has made a donation will get a CD of their package, as well as others, being handed out as well as recieving follow-up CDs as additional packages come in.

Of course pics, and if possible additional video, will be posted in this thread as time goes on.

I know we have quite a few Muslim Geeks bopping around in here- what better time to make a small donation than right before Eid!

Sevap is somewhat mandated during Ramadan, if I remember the Quran correctly.
