I got interested in reps because of Panerai, and it seems that none of the facs are coming out with new, better models. Quite sad.

That's because Panerai as a brand is dead. Also, there are plenty of good Panerai reps available already. Most are good to go as is.

RG is the site that I check the most each day. If I could wish something it would be more watch hobby threads than the usual for sale posts. And that just me. I also noted the slow down in activity and one of the reasons might be that not a lot of interesting watches are released anymore. Nowadays we have 10 different factories making the same Sub watch, and that's a shame.

There has a big down turn in gen sales the past few years which shows lack of interest in gens also.

As long as we have QC pictures and newbies asking who has the best sub, RG will never be dead.

Has anyone bought a rep watch from Rep Watch Scammer? Their web site is www.repwatchscammer They are based in Switzerland next to the Rolex headquarters. Their web site shows they are selling franken rep solid gold rolex daytona with gen movement, gen dial, gen hands, gen bezel, gen crown, gen crystal, gen case, gen bracelet, gen papers, and gen box for $1,299. Looks like a great deal to me.

Yeah, i still remember the noob who opened a thread about this guy and upon hearing that it's a scam he couldn't believe it. He was in such denial that he went berserk against people who tried to help him.
"If you haven't tried it then why are you saying that it's a scam? You think you know everything?" and other brilliant noob-thoughts that we read all too often around here were posted that day.

I'm still a noob for sure, but I have built a big collection sting to RG almost exclusively. I'm sure my sn doesn't stick out because I rarely post. I don't know enough to. Not yet anyway. But I buy a good amount of reps from m2m. I stay because this site always works. I dont recall this one ever going down. Reliability is key.

As someone who just found the watch rep world, the first 2 forums I liked enough to join were RG and RWI. I like the vibe here a lot, however there does seem to be more "activity" over there. As an avid military and historic firearms collector, and a Jeep enthusiast, I have been active on other forums since the old "blueboard" days. This shift in popularity between web sites is pretty common, as is the increase and decline in popularity of the subject matter. The one thing that is most common between ALL the different forums is the "Use The Search Feature" answer The problem is that for fora that have been around for a long time 50%+ of the Stickies and search results are out dated (especially in the rep world it seems as reps come and go quickly), have no working pictures, or refer to people/companies that aren't around anymore. So the new guys get frustrated and post our stupid questions, the old guys ridicule them and tell them to search, and a truly frustrating circle jerk ensues. A lot of the old military forums have become nothing but original members telling stories of the "golden era of C&R collecting."
The forums that have survived and thrive are the ones that remain relevant and welcoming to the new guys, and refresh/ purge/ archive the stickies that are out of date and not relevant anymore so the new members can actually find relevant information. I think my favorite thing about this site is the variety of members, and the quality of the Moderators. The mods seem very even handed and don't over moderate, while keeping things under control. In my experience as a Mod, that is a difficult path to walk.

IMHO, the rep hobby is a hobby that the more time you put into it and the more research you do the better you understand the rep hobby. This applies to most hobbies. Most Old Timers like me on RG are more than willing to help out newbies. There are occasions where a newbie will post who has "The best sub?" which results in old timers on RG having fun with the newbie with their humorous post responds.

Keep on posting and if you have any questions about rep watches post them on RG and or send me a PM as I am more than willing to help out a fellow RG geek.
