Crap, I remember the old days and since being away for many years...I spent majority of my time here on RG, as it was the new and vibrant place with an abundance of TDís sellers etc...now I have to admit itís definitely quiet and some news do get to the other forums first...many of the sales are on rwi and itís no secret that itís a lot...I think thatís part of the ghosting issue here where some are feeling around but likely jump on something else there...personally, Iíve had great dealings on my recent purchases here on RG, albeit they were with established olítimers ...the drama is definitely more there now days, comes with the territory...so look at the bright side.

That has been more or less the truth for me. I stepped away for a couple years into a different hobby. Came back around to watches, but got caught more-so by gens this time around. As far as RG goes, I wouldn't say its dead. There are plenty of forums out there that you click on "new posts" and there hasn't been many updates for days. My sales post on the breitlingsource forum stayed on the first sale page for 3 weeks! No need to bump there.

I think another reason for the slow down is reps are far more superior than the old days and members are satisfied with what they have. 904L has changed the game!

Look at my forum name.. if you recognize it then you are a very old member of the forum.. back when we had crappy pams we needed to mod the Cg and reshape the cases.. $1000 Pam 111 that were not even close to the current. Maybe there is less activity because there is less to nitpick. Reps are just so good there is little discussion picking the damn things apart. Anyhooo.. carry on.

We're going to be the best, the greatest forum ever. We need to fire the moderators we have today since they're useless and don't do a great job. I would do a fantastic job as an admin. I would be the best admin this forum has seen.
no but getting them to pay for everything we grant 'em for free would be a good start

o wait, they can't because they're all bought up & paid for the same entity we helped em defeat

haha no but seriously i am not sure how the 'Geek endures but i guess its like a bad habit picked up as a teenager, like smoking

    o & i've owned Breitling & Tag gens
guess what ?! the B in Breitling stands for BORING & the T in Tag probably stood for Twat
since i've owned both at the same time, that makes me a seriously Boring Twat in the elite circles

a half decent rep will make you smile everytime you look at it because whilst it cost you pennies on the dollar, the time it keeps is invaluable
so many watches, so little time ... even less money !

Iíve been here a while too and have always preferred the feeling of this forum.
Many will know me as Watcher and probably described as a veteran and always thought RG was more like the original TRC where most of all this started many years ago with good friendships and knowledge. RWI has many more posts per day but most of them a crapping posts!
I always sell my watches here and have always had good smooth deals and will continue to do so.
    Long live Repgeek!

I was away from RG for a few years due to illness and some other factors. I'm just glad to be back and to see all you guys again. RG feels like family to me.

Although still a very green newcomer, I think my post count across the rep forums already gives a reasonable indication of how much Iíve enjoyed my time at RG to date, and how I instantly felt welcomed into the fold. Iíve felt far less likely to be ripped a new one for asking noob questions here. And I really appreciate the generally laidback attitude of RG members.

The majority of my deals have been done here too, and again have been positive experiences.

Plus RG continues to be the best forum to browse online on an iPad... When are the other fora going to get decent readable layouts? Itís less of an issue now we have Tapatalk, but trying to browse the others in Safari or Chrome is an eye-melting chore... Is repGeek Dead?

I still come here as often as ever but post far less as you do sometimes get bored with similar posts over and again but this post proves that given a slightly different post attracts more responses.

I also think that we have lost many enthusiasts due to the higher prices as although the standard and quality of reps has certainly improved the higher prices does take some of the fun out of it.

And the disappearing buyers is nothing new and not limited to this forum.

without saying anything negative about rwi, just some long time observations of FACTS. Repgeek has tons of old school banned and abandoned members that got thrown out of RWI (including myself and ssteel) or got just plain sick of the cliques and atmosphere of somewhat police like staff. It seems like I haven't ran into a single member that LOVES RWI anymore, instead the entire community "puts up with" RWI simply because the m2m section remains the most active. Meanwhile repgeek is fast, sleek, and mobile friendly. Repgeek m2m has no waiting for or hunting down mods to approve a sale before you can sell. The m2m section by all accounts SHOULD be the busiest one. So why is m2m slow here compared to a forum you have to wait to sell on?

My thoughts: RG is a known, solid watch forum that just needs a tweak to be THE watch forum. RWI seems to pay a boat load to Google ad sense, they always show up first on any Google search I do. Maybe repgeek could do some raffles and fund raising to draw users over. The forum skin is cooler looking on RWI, maybe it's time RG changes it's default skin to something besides the blue one. Asthetics are important, I recently switched to the black and gray theme and enjoy it much more. Another thing to discuss could be the post limit/cap before access to m2m. Does it need to be lightened or matched to rwi, or done away with? If there's not a lot of discussion going on here at RG, it could pose a challenge for RWI members that wish to transition to RG or cross post their sales ad but hit a wall trying to do so by not having 25-100 (I forget the requirement) things to say or enough topics to even do so without appearing to be spamming for post count. With Reddit taking over the world, forums are hurting. A few tweaks could make all the difference. I would love to see repgeek make changes to draw the m2m traffic this way. Even if that means we have to police our own sales or take on a few more mods, this community is self policing by nature. Reddit has zero requirements to post a sale, but they DONT have the community in place like repgeek potentially does, and they are ripe with scammers.

I'm glad to offer something for a raffle (like a free movement service or something), I'm also glad to call in some favors with the TDs and what not to get them to participate. Ultimately the forum with the friendliest most CONVENIENT m2m section will reign supreme. Lift the restrictions, lower the VIP cost by a few bucks, throw raffles, refresh the forum skin, do what you gotta do.
Watch repair & service in the US.

Yeah, i agree about the RWI. RepGeek is pretty much the only rep forum that keeps a civilized level. RWI has some knowledgeable members but they're all surrounded by donkeys who talk the loudest. To be honest, of all 10 most stupid things i've read on rep forums, all 10 were from RWI. I've never posted there, not sure if i have an account there anymore. Not like i'd last very long there, anyways, i'd probably call one of their admins an idiot and get banned for stating the obvious.
RWG.bz is even worse. Some piece of shlt started PM-ing me that he doesn't like my posts on RG and when i've told him in a return PM to go perform oral sex on his dog, they've banned me. Why? I thought they like that kind of banter and "humor". They've certainly used similar epithets on some RG members in the past on their shlthole of a forum.

All of the watch fora are quieter than usual. The number of new watches getting released seems to be slowing down, I usually go by what trusty has on his site as he seems to be the quickest to list stuff and it's just pages pages of different factories making the same rollies, and the market for used rolex parts has gone through the roof - my noob daytona frankens would cost 5-10 times what they cost when I made them originally! Seems like everyone is a bit bored with the watch market, I'm kinda losing interest myself

It's funny you say that. I spent thousands building frankens but the watch I wear the most is my gen omega. I mean it doesn't help all of my reps are with modders at the minute but even so I think it is a reflection on what you're saying.

I think with the range of services modders are offering now, from gold plating to platinum paint mods, people are just investing more money in less watches. And people seem to be genuinely just happier with what they have. I probably spend less time on my hobbies - watches - and more time on work, my kids, just generally other stuff. I think a lot of the old timers have got what they wanted really, they've modded their watches as far as they can go. It'll take something like a stable, accurate CHS SA3187 to bring things back to life I reckon
