    Thanks Raijor.

In a word.....yuck. I'll keep paying my $400. I would pay a lot more for "Hillary Care" via taxes.

Mark you are correct ... the only thing positive about the Canadian system is that every person has care irrespective of their financial status. No child is left out and no parent need fear that they can not afford to get medical help for their child. If you are working poor in Canada you are likely pleased about the health care you receive. If you are well off you are also pleased because you can purchase what you want elsewhere. If you are the middle class you have to take what you get and sometimes it is good and sometimes not. Bad to be poor in America and bad to be middle class in Canada. I joke that Canada is a giant cart and that some ride the cart and the rest of us pull the cart. I have been pulling the cart my whole life.

    Chief:

I'm not a Doc, but a CPA and 30 yr financial advisor and work with docs. I can point to lots of life and health insurance agents who triple a docs income with little risk, 3 days a week, low overhead, and a fraction of the drug and alcoholism risk. There are a lot of us on your side. I don't mind paying a lot to stay alive, I just wish most of it went to your profession.

Medicaid will reimburse $77.00 of that.
The cost of the sterile kit for the procedure is $50.00.

Net revenue to the clinic $27.00 to pay for an hour of the resident physicians time, a half hour of the attending physicians time, nurses, support staff, electricity....you get the idea.

Thanks God I find other rewards in medicine.......
Hey Chief, 10 years later, hows repayment these days?

Wow, I'd long forgotten about this thread! Honestly I don't know how primary care reimbursement is these days, but the general sentiment in the medical field in the US is still grim. High burn out rates, alcoholism, suicide, and overall low spirits. Not everyone of course, some find a good niche and balance for themselves. Others seem to be so spiritually fulfilled by practicing medicine as a "calling" that it doesn't seem to matter what their work conditions are like. I call them "true believers".

Now that I've grown up a bit and have talked to more types of professionals; lawyers, bankers, business owners, etc....it seems that everyone has it tough in their own respective fields.

I now practice medicine with a startup company that is mainly direct pay or reimbursed by employer/corporate contracts. Much less paperwork and headaches.

I can do circumcision for free just provide the suture, the anesthesia, sterile clamps and blades. $77 are way overpriced.
