Default Ordering from a Trusted Dealer

Tips for new members when buying from a Dealer

For new members and in particular for those who have never been involved with buying a replica before, you might find the following words of use to you.
I also recommend that you read an excellent Sticky (post) by member Daytonadragon which can be found here:-
My Perspective on Buying and Trading Watches on RG

If however you choose to make your purchase from the general web, rather from a member, there are other considerations.
    1. Always use a Trusted Dealer (TD).
These can be found on the main page of the forum under ‘Trusted Watch Dealers’ Link:- https://www.repgeek.com/trusted-watch-dealers/

    2. When making your selection make sure that you are accessing the correct URL.
There are a number of scam sites that attempt to replicate the Trusted Dealers own web pages. The true current URL is usually listed under the Trusted Dealer’s pages in this forum.
The URL may change from time to time as sometimes the websites are shut down and the TD has to transfer to another domain.
Don’t be tempted to go searching on the web for it; you may end up on a scam site. The TD will post the new domain/URL under the appropriate TD’s page.

    3. Trusted Dealers are not manufacturers; they do not make parts or build watches.
The clue is in the title ‘Dealer’. TDs rarely stock watches in volume, sometimes they stock none at all.
Their website shows all the watches that they can source from the various factories and when you place an order with them, they in turn order it from the factory.

    Procedures
    Choosing your watch
Once you have decided on the watch make and model that you want, you may be tempted to pick a TD, find the watch and place your order.
At this point you may want to take a deep breath and hold.

    Which Factory?
There are various factories and all may produce the same make and model, but with subtle differences. The TD may have several versions of the same watch for sale. They may be from different factories or have different movements. One factory may have the best dial, but not the best case, another may have a good movement, but have an incorrect hand stack (hands in the wrong order).
You will need to do some research to find out which is the best for you. There are no hard and fast rules about this, but there is a mass of information on the forum if you choose to look for it. It is unlikely that you will find the perfect replica, but if you do the research, you will eliminate those elements that you really can’t live with.

    Watch decision made
So now you have decided on a watch from a particular TD. Before you start reaching for your credit card, mail the TD and check if the watch is in stock or is available from the factory. Just because it is on the website doesn’t mean that the timepiece can be despatched immediately. A production run at the factory may have finished and all stocks depleted, or the watch version may have been superseded.
If you find out that there is a 4 month wait after you have handed over your funds, you may feel aggrieved, but you will only have yourself to blame.

    How to pay
Some TDs will allow card payments and others will require fund transfers such as Western Union or Transferwise. This is down to the TD and your choice may be limited. You may have to restrict your TD selection based on what payment type that they accept and what you are prepared to offer. Some members are happy to use their CC, while others prefer money transfers. Some members have prepaid cards which can be charged with only the correct amount, and are generally more secure. You have to consider all the options yourself but no one can advise you on which option to take. Also remember that additional charges may be made by a CC company for foreign currency transactions.

    Quality Control (QC)
This is a bit of a misnomer, but it is something that most TDs do. After payment a set of images of the watch that they are offering to supply will be sent to you. While this is not the same as examining the watch in your hand, it will help you to spot obvious flaws and give you the chance to reject it in favour of another. Scrutinize the photos carefully and if you feel unqualified to judge, there is an option to post them on the forum to get feedback from more experienced members.
    Link here:- https://www.repgeek.com/quality-cont...cture-gallery/
The QC photos will only be sent to you once the TD has the watch in their possession.
If you reject the watch, inform the TD (politely) with your concerns and they will usually source a replacement and offer new images. Clearly this process is not open ended and you have to remember that these are only copies of the original, so it is unlikely that you will find that elusive dream; the perfect replica. (well, not yet at least)

    The nervous wait
It is most likely that your watch may come from another part of the world, so don’t expect Amazon Prime service. Your package will have to go through at least two sets of customs and you can realistically expect to wait anything from a week to 4 weeks before your watch arrives on your doorstep. As with any goods of this type, there is always the danger of the package being impounded by customs. If you do get a letter from the customs office advising you of the retention, do not acknowledge, or if you do, deny that you ever ordered such an item. Inform your TD what has happened as most have a policy that will minimise the cost of ordering another at the full price.

    The package arrives, but...
When you open your long awaited prize, one of two things will happen. You will be overjoyed at the contents and wear it with pride. However if you are unlucky you may find your watch to have the wrong colour dial, or the movement not working, or received the wrong watch entirely.
    What do you do?
What you do NOT do is post a thread on the public forum venting your understandable anger at the TD.
This will get you nowhere. Formulate a polite mail to the TD informing them, in as much detail as possible, of your concerns. Give the TD a chance to correct the problem in both your interests.
If after prolonged negotiations there is no settlement to your satisfaction, you can privately mail one of the moderators of the forum and ask them to intervene. Quite often this is enough to produce a satisfactory settlement, but the moderator will want to see that you have tried to resolve this yourself before proceeding on any course of action.

    In conclusion...
Despite the sometimes scary possibilities indicated in this post, most transactions with TDs are straight forward and relatively uncomplicated. It is in their interest to give a good service or face the possibility of losing their trusted dealer status. But buyers have a responsibility too and just as the carpenter’s adage is ‘measure 5 times and cut once’, we could also paraphrase that into ‘Research, research, research and then order’.
It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required. (W.C.)

This is still a post that should be required reading with a accept button that takes 10 minutes to activate when you sign up. It will be the best 10 minutes in a buyers time and the best 10 minutes for the mods and other members angry at the understandable, perpetual and repetitious noob Inquiries, the same ones we all had but read up for a couple weeks. Yes, I said a.couple weeks be sure the info is here but overwhelming. After two weeks then ask a question. It might seem dumb, hell it may be but it will be a much more informed dumb question.
