Default Bell & Ross BR02 mini - review

After a few days living with a very inexpensive BR02 automatic that I picked up during a recent vendor's sale, I can share these thoughts.

Though I have generally good things to say from about the vendor, This particular model (which was very inexpensive) is pretty much a POS. Rough edges, sloppy assembly, mechanical issues and flaws abound. No AR and crap lume. There certainly have to better variants of this watch.

The crown for the rotating inner bezel is borked. The gear is assembled crooked on the shaft, so once each crown revolution, it binds up almost solid. The screw-in crown has some nasty threads that make unscrewing it feel like pulling barbed wire out of a badger's arse.

I had to take the outer bezel off and finish dressing the rough edges of some parts as it was snagging clothing. There's edges on the crowns that are rough and feel cheap. The way the strap bends when worn exposes some very coarse machining on the case and that looks really cheap too. The dial is carbon, but paper thin and the edges of the date window are not sharp and the surface is distorted around the opening.

The movement has stopped intermittently twice while wearing it. Tapping the watch sharply will cause it to resume ticking, but WTH?

You might say "you get what you pay for", but it's not worth even the little bit I paid for it. I like the style and size but I'd have to be pretty darn sure before ordering a "better" one. Here's the thing - I'm really not all that picky, it's just that bad. I'd send it back but it's just not worth the hassle. I'll probably sacrifice it as a teardown, rebuild learning "tool"
    Regards,
    Russ

Now there's a mental picture that will haunt me for a while... Who sold you this POS?
If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong?

WBK, but in his defense, it was super cheap ($95 shipped) and I knew that going in. I figured it would be a bit cheesy, but it's some pretty stinky cheese.

I got the 229 USD version of the BR02 from PWC (Robert) and it is great. Looks like the extra money was worth it!
