I thought it would be interesting to get to know your dealers and put a person behind the name. Everyone that has been in the rep world long enough knows Andrew and his legendary service. I'd like to introduce you to a friend and overall good guy - Andrew from TrustyTime Watch.

We’ll start with some personal questions:

Q: What part of China are your from?
A: I am currently based in Guangzhou, China

Q: How old are you?
A: 40 this year

Q: What is your favorite watch brand and why?
A: Audemars Piguet because it displays sportiness and class. It is also a long outstanding brand for hundreds of years with a long history in watchmaking

Q: What is your daily watch?
A: A Rolex Ceramic GMT (Genuine)

Q: If you had to choose one rep to wear for the rest of your life, which would it be and why?
A: AP Diver in Forged Carbon case because it is light, strong and also classy.

Q: Were you a fan of watches before you got into the rep watch business?
A: Yes. I have been a big fan of watches since I was young. Bought my first replica TAG HEUER F1 at age of 17. Watches never fail to amaze me, especially new designs and complicated movements.

Q: What are your hobbies or interests?
A: Fishing, exploring new watches, design and building custom watches as sideline projects

Q: What type of music do you listen to? Specifically?
A: Chinese music, mostly Chinese POP music

Here is an example of what I'm listening to now:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wRT-5heURhY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Chinese and Japanese cuisine

Q: Are you married?
A: Yes

Moving on to rep watch related questions:

Q: How did you get into the rep watch business?
A: I was looking around for a Rolex Submariner high end model and ended up buying from this website called buydesignerwatch.com. Realized I paid too much for a Asia 2813 Rolex Submariner – USD168 at that time and then chanced upon an upcoming Forum RWG 1 which was about to launch. Then everything just started from there when I was accepted as a dealer alongside the old big guys like Eddie Lee, TTK, Narikaa, Paul etc. I never look back since ..

Q: It’s long been rumored that you and Joshua are in fact the same person. We referred to you as “Jandrew” and “The Twins”. Are you in fact 2 different people?
A: We are separate entities all along. I came into the replica scene about 2 months before he came in. We had different sources at the start but went into creating some new projects together to push new things across. An example is the Bell Ross 46mm that took the industry by storm because no Chinese Factory was keen to make something more than 42mm at all. 46mm was a size they could not accept at all. We pushed that through and it blew up the entire industry then for big watches.

Q: Your chat option existed before others implemented it. It was legendary…. 2AM, 12PM, 6AM, 9PM it seemed like YOU were at the keyboard no matter what time it was. There were times when we hypothesized that it wasn’t you… instead it was 2-3 different people working shifts. Was it really you behind the keyboard?
A: ONLY myself and me answer the mails all along. I don’t have anyone near to the mailbox. My workers cannot read or understand English at all. And the mailbox is also something I don’t give access to anyone else. This is my rice bowl ultimately.

Q: You’ve been in the rep business a long time. In terms of rep quality, things have improved tremendously in the last 6-8 years. We used to have terrible PAM CGs with offset pins, poorly shaped CG bodies, and floppy levers. Dials had thin fonts, poorly placed markers, terrible lume, etc. Now it seems all of the makers have beautiful CGs and dials with amazing lume. The attention to detail is astounding. Do you think these improvements were driven by competition amongst makers or did they genuinely listen to the consumers?
A: Both if you ask me. Mostly the consumers feedback to Factories and also Factories try to out-do one another to gain more sales and reputation as a top factory.

Q: The latest PAM 87F case seems to have the sharpest angles I’ve seen to date. Seems the quality of machining has bumped up to a whole new level. Is this because makers have invested in new technology to compete in the marketplace or is it simply because they’re trying harder to put out a better product with the same technology?
A: I can tell you Factories are utilizing new technologies when they can. DLC Coating is one example. Before DLC, there was ONLY the cheap PVD coating method and it gives a cheapo look to it. Now we have BRONZE case, Forged Carbon, DLC Coating and also engraved bridges & rotor winders on movements which are vast improvements over the many years.

Q: We’ve all heard of CNY, is this something the rep makers have created so they could take a vacation? LOL!
A: CNY is a huge celebrated event in China. Factories start to stop operations about 2 weeks beforehand and most factories will only have 20% workers left in the last week before CNY holidays start. And the holidays will stretch for 14-18 days after the Day 1 of CNY. If you ask me, I don’t like holidays because it slow things down and I don’t like making my customers wait.

Q: Which country is the most problematic for you in terms of shipping and customer issues?
A: Switzerland is one of them. The other one is Germany.

Q: Do the rep makers log into RepGeek to see what people are saying about their watches or do they get input from dealers like yourselves? I’d imagine language is a barrier to most but the level of detail in threads scattered on this site can’t compare to a few words from dealers.
A: No. The Makers don’t understand English at all. They are getting a lot of feedback from dealers who are close to them.

Q: I noticed you posted that you were looking for input and feedback on new models released at Baselworld 2016. Seems you are planning to work directly with makers to create some new super reps. Do the makers really listen to our requests?
A: Yes and No. Some brands are never really in their good books so they will never consider it even if the model is well made and fanciful. They want to make the evergreen brands like Omega, Rolex, Panerai etc.

Q: If, yes… is it possible to request a higher grade of metal for screws and fasteners used in reps? Paneral lug screws have improved tremendously but strap screws, crown tubes, and even crowns are still hit or miss. Higher quality would be welcomed even if it meant $5 tacked on to each rep made.
A: This issue has been looked into every now and then and I can tell you a lot of factories have since invested in more expensive parts that they use.

Q: Are there plans to rep a new movement? Seems like it’s been a while since we’ve seen a new release after the SA3135 and A7753. It would be so nice to see a rep LWO movement with properly jeweled running seconds and correct datewheel placement. Sales of AP ROOs would go through the roof!
A: One thing many customers or members do not know is that movements making is a HUGE investment. FYI, Asia 7753 movement investment cost almost half a million dollars before they went into full production

Q: I noticed you took a brief hiatus from the rep world and you’ve been quiet for a while. Now that you’re back can we expect to see improvements in the TrustyTime organization, i.e., better photos on your site, proper QC, waterproofing and timing, and most of all the legendary quick response times we had in the past? Maybe some RepGeek member only specials? ;)
A: All the time, the work processes at Trusty Time has been top notch. I have decided to step out again because I believe the community can be better served with a long serving trusted dealer who will make contacts with some small factories who are upcoming and also the reputable Factories who needs some advice.
Last but not least, we will also be coming up with more information in the industry and also our work processes to give a more transparent outlook on our sales and delivery. Thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to chat with me. You have been a reliable and trusted dealer for as long as I can remember. I wish you the best for 2016 and I hope this insight into the man behind TrustyTime will be a fun read for the members here.

A: Thanks for interviewing me, it was fun.

I have always liked Andrew's blunt remarks and responses to my emails, although I appreciate many find it perhaps too blunt.
The very first TD I dealt with when I joined the forums was Andrew and I continue to use him, amongst others.
Great dealer.

Always great to get insight and feedback from our TD's ..... and better quality parts DO make a huge difference, and I feel many members here would not mind paying extra for higher quality metals used in screws and other parts.

The huge hole I see lacking in our TD is parts ... for example:

1. I want a 20mm blue rubber breitling strap along with a polished breitling deployment buckle for my Chronomat?
2. I want different color LW rubber straps
3. The CG on my Noob PAM 005 got dinged up and I want a replacement
4. Pam Buckles?
5. AP Buckles?
6. parts parts parts ... dials, hands, crowns, etc....
7. REP an EXTREMELY accurate Pre-H Panerai CG ? .... just an idea

A TD that offers nothing but parts ... I think this would be an additional stream of revenue for the REP community

DSN offers some of this to an extent ... but it's hit/miss with him .. and his parts are not that accurate

Great interview and interesting insights.
Wonder if the TDs worry about the longevity of this industry.
I wonder at what point does it not become profitable for the factories to make reps and switch to other products or leave replication all together.
With the quality and variety available at this moment, it seems we are truly in the Golden Age of reps.

If we could be a littlebit straight forward in the interview, I would love to get his comment on the rumors spread from european governments that the watchindustry heavily rely on child labor to make their watches.
