    Actually it was attached pretty firmly, it just doesn't look very good until we file away at the mess. The one pictured was by far the worst out of the bunch, which is also why I chose it as the example here.

    Using a gas torch sounds good in theory, not so good in practice for a first timer. It's not a flat surface we're working with here. I attempted several times and temperature control always seem to kill the attempts, as it would either be too hot and the solder would either run away from the area where I was trying to build it up, or not hot enough and it wouldn't stick at all. Besides that, using the iron fits in with the minimal-tools minimal-cost minimal-experience theme I was going for.

    Apart from Staybrite, is there anything else I can use to solder? Staybrite is banned where I am at....
